America's Beauty, Thrown Out on the Street

Life for a beauty queen is supposed to be about glitz and glam but for one American beauty it is more about keeping a roof over her head.

It seems like the 23 years old Miss Colorado – 2011 has been facing challenges all her life. For Blair Griffith it took four attempts onto the pageants before she won the title of Miss Colorado Teen USA in 2006. It was a great success for the teenager. But her father who encouraged her to participate in the contest couldn't share her joy. By the time she won he had already passed because of cancer.

The young woman couldn’t think of a worse twist of fate but a year later, even more heartache struck the young beauty queen, her mother had suffered a heart attack. The medical expenses dinted the family budget and forced Griffith out of her home – just weeks after she was crowned Miss Colorado-2011. “It was a difficult thing to go through to sit there and go, 'Where are we going to go now?” Ms Griffith said.

Unfortunately, it gets worse for Miss Colorado 2011 because she is going to lose her job, joining many other Coloradans. The shop where she works is closing in March and although she has faced much hardship. "There are so many people who go through the exact same situation," she says. Now her only hope for a better future is winning the 2011 Miss USA title. Even being homeless and completely broke, Blair Griffith continues to train for her upcoming competition, hoping to reclaim a slice of normality.

World's Most Expensive iPhone 4 encrusted with diamonds

The electronics customization expert extraordinaire Stuart Hughes, who brought you the gold iPad Supreme and iPhone 3GS Supreme , appears to have broken his own record for the world’s most expensive phone.That title now goes to the 5 million GBP (around $8 million) diamond encrusted iPhone 4 that Hughes custom made for an Australian customer, according to The Sun.

Cult of Mac explains, “Instead of paying $40,000 for a Swarovski iPhone 4, two Australian businessmen paid customizer Stuart Hughes eight million dollars to plate their iPhone 4s in gold and then encrust them in over five hundred diamonds totaling over 100 karats.”

$300 Superhero epic can put Hollywood to shame

3,000 dead birds fall from Arkansas sky

One expert says storm killed thousands of birds


Sunday, 02 Jan 2011 - Scientists are wondering whether fireworks or poison may have caused thousands of birds to fall from the sky in Arkansas. But one expert is sure it was the weather.

Experts are investigating the deaths of more than 3,000 blackbirds that fell to the ground over a 1.5 square-mile area near Little Rock, just before midnight on New Year's Eve.

Residents of the small town of Beebe awoke to find dead blackbirds on homes, cars and lawns. Cleanup crews wore protective suits, gas masks and rubber gloves as they spent the holiday weekend gathering the carcasses.

The director of Cornell University's ornithology lab says the most likely suspect is violent weather. He says thousands of birds were probably asleep in a single tree when a "washing machine-type thunderstorm" sucked them up into the air, disoriented them, and even fatally soaked and chilled them.

A forecaster says rough weather had hit the state earlier Friday, but the worst of it was already well east of Beebe by the time the birds started falling.

Researchers in three states will be examining the remains of the birds for clues.

Cameron Diaz Interested in Charlie’s Angels 3?

 The last time we saw Charlie’s Angels on the big screen it was 2003, when Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Lui were joined by a young Shia LaBeouf and Bernie Mac. The modern day send up of the vintage television show made a decent amount of money but seemed to have run out of steam shortly after its release. Recently, Diaz was asked about her stance on the future of the franchise and whether or not she’s interested in reprising her role to complete a trilogy.

Diaz stated that she’d love to do another movie because they’re fun and exciting, but she feels that it’s time for a new group of Angels to hit the scene.

“I don’t know if we’ll do it. I mean, we played the movie as the new crop of Charlie’s Angels and we never were trying to be [or] pretend we were the other girls. So it might just be time for a new crop of girls to come on.”

Her co-star Barrymore also served as a producer on the films, and her and Diaz are very close friends. Perhaps she can persuade her to give the team another shot? If not, we don’t think anyone will lose sleep over it. This year we’ll see our fair share of ass-kicking girls with Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch. Those ladies can pick up where the Angels left off.
